ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - With seven true freshmen and 11 total underclassmen, UCF has one of the more youthful squads in the nation this season. Research shows that the Knights are the fifth-youngest squad in the country.
Mike Kennedy, the associate director of media relations at Denver, studied the rosters of team's across the country. He compiled a list of the youngest squads by adding up the years of each player on a roster (as of Nov. 15, 2008) and dividing by the total number of players on the roster.
With an average age of 19.60, the Knights are tied for fifth nationally with Duquesne. Denver (18.92) is first on the list, followed by Presbyterian (19.27), Saint Peter's (19.29) and Saint Louis (19.42).
The Knights have just two seniors this season - guard Jermaine Taylor (Tavares, Fla.) and center Kenrick Zondervan (Hoofddorp, Holland).
UCF's young squad will open the regular season on Nov. 16, hosting North Carolina A&T. The Knights are slated to play 16 games at the UCF Arena in 2008-09. The schedule includes a contest with cross-state foe USF on Dec. 6 and a league showdown with national power Memphis on Jan. 10.

Before the season starts, the Knights will provide fans a sneak preview of the squad on Nov. 8 at the inaugural UCF Postgame Madness. The free event at the UCF Arena will begin following the conclusion of the UCF-Southern Miss football game. Fans will be able to select their season ticket seat location and also watch the Knights participate in an inter-squad scrimmage at the event.
