WINDERMERE, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Play at the nation's premier men's golf tournament began Sunday morning and Alabama (287, -1) paces the field after one round of action at the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational. The Crimson Tide's Matthew Swan and Indiana's Jorge Campillo are tied for first in the individual standings at four-under 68.
Six individuals broke par Sunday, while Alabama is the lone team in the red. Indiana is second at 289 (+1), followed by Southern Cal (290, +2).
The three-round, three-day event will resume Monday morning.
The 18-team field includes eight of the top-10 squads in the country according to the Golfweek/Sagarin Index. Host UCF is tied for 12th after posting a 300 (+12).
Texas Tech and defending champion Georgia are seven strokes behind Alabama at 294 (+6).
Kevin Tway (69, -3) of Oklahoma State is third in the individual standings. Georgia's Russell Henley, Southern Cal's Tom Glissmeyer and Georgia Tech's Cameron Tringale are tied for fourth at one-under 71.
Swan posted five birdies and one bogey. Campillo recorded an eagle, three birdies and a bogey.
Harris English of Georgia, who claimed the individual title in 2007, is currently tied for 18th at one-over 73.
Blayne Barber (73, +1) paced host UCF and is also tied for 18th.
The 2008 edition is serving as the fifth installment of the tournament. The event is hosted by UCF and the Tavistock Group, in partnership with the Central Florida Sports Commission.
