Doubles Teams Kick Off ITA Women's Tennis Southern

Oct. 24, 2008

ATHENS, Ga. (UCFAthletics.com) - Rain at the University of Georgia forced day one of the ITA Women's Tennis Southern Regionals indoors, where UCF's doubles teams got to work on Friday. Singles matches were originally scheduled for the first day of competition, but now will get underway on Saturday.

The Flight A bracket witnessed a pair of UCF doubles teams hit the courts. In the first round, senior Elvira Serrot and freshman Andrea Yacaman were bounced back USF's Jessica Zok and Iciri Rai, 8-5. However, the duo of senior Kenza Belbacha and freshman Christy Core got past Mirte De Bakker and Stephanie Viera of Troy, 8-6.

Belbacha and Core then had the task of going up against the No. 4 doubles team in the country in the second round, and were unable to pull off the upset in an 8-1 loss to Auburn's Alex Haney and Melissa Koning.

Over in Flight B, sophomores Jenny Frisell and Isa Ohlinger received a bye in the first round before defeating Kennesaw State's Courtney Cox and Lindsay Dillon, 8-2, in the quarterfinals. Frisell and Ohlinger now advance to the semifinals which takes place on Sunday.

UCF gets set for singles match on day two Saturday in Georgia, as it leads up to the final day of action on Monday.
