ORLANDO, Fla. - The UCF women's golf team will play its fourth and final fall event this weekend as it heads to Auburn for the Derby Invitational at the Auburn University Club at Yarbrough Farms. The par-72, 6,301-yard course will welcome a Knight team which had a week off following its best showing of the fall, an 893 at the Mercedes-Benz Championship hosted by Tennessee.
This week's field will once again provide the Knights with a tough challenge as the team faces six top 25 teams in No. 2 Arizona State, No. 4 Georgia, No. 6 Alabama, No. 7 Virginia, No. 12 Auburn and No. 13 LSU. UCF is presently ranked No. 34 nationally.
The event features single 18-hole rounds on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Freshman Marika Lendl (Bradenton, Fla.) was named the Conference USA Women's Golfer of the Week after her outing in Knoxville where she fired a school-record 214. Ranked No. 62 in the nation individually, Lendl will look to cap off a successful collegiate debut season which has seen her shoot par-or-better in five out of nine rounds. Two active Knights, May Tomimbang (Kissimmee, Fla.) and Victoria Tomko (Lontzen, Belgium) remain from the Knight squad that placed 14th at the Derby Invitational in 2006.
