ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - With two meets remaining in the regular season, UCF's cross country team will run in the FLRunners.com Invitational Friday evening at Chain of Lakes Park near Brevard Community College in Titusville, Fla. The meet will begin at 6 p.m.
With the Conference USA Championship set for Nov. 1 in Memphis, UCF will compete in area meets the next two weekends to conclude its regular season. Next Saturday, Oct. 11, the Knights will run in the Disney Classic at 8:30 a.m.
The FLRunners.com women's event is a 5K race and has a field of 14 teams.
They all looked really good this week in workouts," said assistant coach Dennis Kozub. "Erica Weitz (Morganville, N.J.) and Shantile Blackburn (Brooklyn, N.Y.) look strong and Shannon Kelly (Tampa, Fla.) is coming along really well. Katrina Skinner (Tampa, Fla.) should step up and take Allison Palmer's (Oviedo, Fla.) place because she is going to be rested."
The Knights have consistently improved throughout the season, including a third-place finish against a strong field at the FSU Invitational last Saturday. At FSU, Blackburn led the team for the second-straight meet, finishing seventh in a personal-best 18:22.88. Each of UCF's six runners posted new personal bests.
UCF is currently 14th in the USTFCC South Region Poll. In four meets in 2008, the Knights have finished first, second, third and fifth.
