Two Knights Win Singles Titles in Winter Park

Oct. 12, 2008

WINTER PARK, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team concluded play at the C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational Sunday as a pair of Knights claimed singles titles. Junior Marc Rocafort (Barcelona, Spain) won the Flight A crown and sophomore Blaze Schwartz (Pensacola, Fla.) was victorious in Flight B.

Competing in his first tournament of the fall, Rocafort went 5-0 during the event. On Sunday, he topped Stetson's Njal Stene, 7-5, 4-6, 6-1. Rocafort is in his first campaign with the Knights after transferring from Middle Tennessee.

Schwartz also won five matches at the tournament. He had little trouble in the title contest, recording a 6-1, 6-1 win over Lukas Bolonos of Palm Beach Atlantic.

"Marc has been eager to get into tournament action since early September. That showed this weekend as he dominated a solid draw in the A flight," UCF head coach Bobby Cashman said. "Blaze has had a frustrating fall thus far, but he did a great job of putting that behind him and getting the job done this weekend."

Nine teams participated in the three-day event, which was hosted by Rollins.

Two other Knights were in action Sunday. Senior Tarek Ben Soltane (Tunis, Tunisia) and freshman Joe Delinks (Falmouth, Mass.) played in the Flight B doubles championship match. The Knights came up short against Stetson's Gokay Celik and Christopher Swanteson as the Hatters' posted an 8-4 victory.

The Knights are slated to conclude their fall campaign Oct. 31-Nov. 2, hosting the UCF Invitational on campus.
