Oct. 10, 2008

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Freshman Marika Lendl (Miami, Fla.) continued the torrid start to her UCF career by firing a four-under-par 68 to pace the Knights in the opening round of the Mercedes-Benz Championship.

As the team, UCF shot a 300 at the par-72 course, its best round of the year, tying the squad for 12th overall.

Lendl's round tied her for first place overall through 18 holes in a field that includes seven top 25 teams. It is both her lowest round of the year and UCF's best as a team. Jessy Tang shot a 75, Stephanie Connelly fired a 78, May Tomimbang carded a 79 and Katie Detlefsen roudned out the Knight golfers with ehr 80.

Play continues in Knoxville with single rounds on both Saturday and Sunday.
