Lendl Leads the Field in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (UCFAthletics.com) - Competing in just her third collegiate tournament, freshman Marika Lendl (Miami, Fla.) of the UCF women's golf team leads the field after two rounds of play at the Mercedes Benz Championship. Lendl and the Knights, who are tied for eighth, will conclude the event at the Fox Den Country Club Sunday.

On Saturday, Lendl carded a two-under 70. Her two-round total of 138 (-6) places her two strokes ahead of Cindy LaCrosse of Louisvlle and Sydney Crane of North Carolina, who are tied for second.

The Knights entered the second round tied for 12th, but posted a 293 (+5) Saturday. UCF (593, +17) is four strokes behind seventh-place Tennessee. North Carolina is first in the team standings at 577 (+1).

UCF senior Stephanie Connelly (Pasadena, Md.) posted a three-under 69 in the second round and is tied for 27th (147, +3). After two rounds of three-over 75, sophomore Jessy Tang (Miami, Fla.) is tied for 35th.

Sophomore Katie Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn.) and senior May Tomimbang (Kissimmee, Fla.) are also competing in the event for the Knights. Detelfsen (158, +14) is tied for 79th and Tomminbang is 87th at 17-over 161.
