ORLANDO, Fla. - When UCF plays host to SMU on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Bright House Networks Stadium in the Knights' only home game in October, the stands will be filled not only with the traditional black and gold, but also with pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. UCF will partner with Florida Hospital Cancer Institute (FHCI) to help game attendees become the "Number 1 Knights in the Fight Against Breast Cancer."
At the game, FHCI will distribute 8,000 pink foam fingers and distribute thousands of pink stickers for cheerleaders, staff, and attendees to show their support. Game attendees will also hear important messaging throughout the game about one of the most common cancers in women in the United States.
Florida Hospital is the official hospital of UCF Athletics.
Florida Hospital Cancer Institute (FHCI) provides a comprehensive continuum of services ranging from disease prediction and prevention to state-of-the-art detection, treatment and research - encompassed by educational, psychological and spiritual support. FHCI treats more than 3,800 newly diagnosed cancer patients each year - more than any other program in Florida - and has the largest clinical trials program in Central Florida.
According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States, other than skin cancer. More than 180,000 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in the United States in 2008.
Tickets for the game are still available and can be purchased online at either UCFAthletics.com or TicketMaster.com.
