ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF's men's soccer team looks for its first win of the young season Sunday night, traveling to Stetson for a 7:00 p.m. contest in DeLand, Fla. The Knights, currently 0-2-0 on the year, will be playing the third game of a season-opening five-game road trip.
Opening the season at the Ohio State Bert and Iris Wolstein Classic last weekend, UCF fell to Penn State 2-0 before losing to ninth-ranked Ohio State 2-1 in double overtime. After getting a goal from senior Chris Andaur, the Knights led the Buckeyes 1-0 late in the game before Ohio State forced overtime in the 89th minute. Despite the two losses, head coach Bryan Cunningham saw some positives from his young team against tough opposition.
"It will be good to get back to the field," Cunningham said. "We had a tough loss to a good Ohio State team last time out, but our young players gained a lot of confidence with the way we played in that game. The guys have had a good week of practice building on what we did well and correcting our mistakes."
Stetson, currently 1-0-0 heading into a home game Friday night against Florida International, opened the season with a 6-1 victory against Webber International. Eugene Starikov scored two goals and added an assist for the Hatters in the win.
"We look forward to playing a good Stetson team and trying to get a result on the road," Cunningham said.
