FRANKLIN, Tenn. - The UCF women's golf team had its best day of the young season on Sunday as the Knights turned in a collective score of 301 in the third and final round of the Mason Rudolph Challenge at the par-72 Vanderbilt Legends Club in the Nashville suburb of Franklin.
For the weekend, UCF shot a 914 to finish 17th overall in a loaded field that included nine of the nation's top 10 teams and 16 of the top 41. No. 2 UCLA won the event with a score of 850, six strokes ahead of its rival, top-ranked and defending national champion USC.
For the second straight day, UCF was paced by freshman Marika Lendl (Bradenton, Fla.) who shot an even-par 72 on Sunday on the heels of a two-under-par 70 on Saturday. Lendl tied for 39th place overall in the event, and first amongst her teammates, with a 224 (+8). Senior May Tomimbang (Kissimmee, Fla.) fired a three-over-par 75 today, the team's fourth-best round of the event, and finished third amongst the Knights with a 232 (+16) for the weekend. Tomimbang improved in each of her three rounds in Franklin, going from a 79 on Friday to a 78 on Saturday before today's 75.
In second place for UCF was senior Stephanie Connelly (Pasadena, Md.) who fired a 229 (+13) to tie for 56th place overall. Sophomore Jessy Tang (Miami, Fla.) carded a 233 (+17) at the event while junior Victoria Tomko (Lontzen, Belguim) rounded out the UCF competitors with her 237 (+21).
The Knights will return to action on October 3-5 when they take part in the Lady Tar Heel Invitational at UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.
