UCF Cross Country Finishes Third in FSU Invitational

Sept. 27, 2008

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF cross country team continued its strong start to the 2008 season on Saturday morning, finishing third in the Florida State Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla. The Knights were led for the second-straight meet by senior Shantile Blackburn. Each UCF runner ran a personal best in the meet.

The meet was won by USF with Tampa finishing second, UCF third, and the host, Florida State, coming in fourth.

Following Blackburn, junior Erica Weitz finished second, Allison Palmer was third, Katrina Skinner was fourth, Ocean Cohen finished fifth, Kathia Skinner sixth, and Shannon Kelly was seventh for the Knights.

"It was a great performance this week at Florida State," said head coach Caryl Smith Gilbert. Everyone set a personal record again. It is good to see the runners shuffling positions each week because that means they are all working hard. We are getting closer and closer to reaching our goal of a good performance at conference. We have two meets left and then will take a couple of weeks off before conference."

In four meets this season, the Knights have finished first, second, third and fifth. UCF is currently 15th in the USTFCC South Region Poll.

"We are getting stronger, and we are running with more confidence," said volunteer assistant coach Denniz Kozub. "The runners are looking good, and I was very happy with the way they finished. This course was much harder than last week's course, and our times were much better. We really attacked the hills and made up ground there."
