UCF Tennis Coaches Named Members of the ITA Regional Committees

Sept. 24, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association recently announced its regional committee members and both UCF head coaches were selected for the prestigious honor. Bobby Cashman and Stephanie Nickitas will serve three-year terms and will help decide individual regional singles and doubles rankings, postseason All-Americans and who from the region get to travel to the NCAA Tournament.

For Cashman, it is his second time serving on the ranking committee. The leader of the men's program is beginning his 10th year at UCF, and recently guided the Knights into the Fila Collegiate Tennis Rankings for the second-straight season in the spring of 2008.

"Representing UCF in a region filled with so many of the top programs in the country is certainly a thrill for me," said Cashman. "Region III, which includes the SEC, is one of the strongest in the nation. I'm proud to be a part of a committee that includes coaches from Alabama, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt."

Meanwhile, Nickitas is entering her second season with the women's program. She led the Black and Gold to a 12-9 record in her first campaign last year, and is now set to take on a 2009 schedule that includes five opponents ranked in the top 25 in 2008.

"I'm definitely excited and honored to have this opportunity," said Nickitas. "I feel very fortunate to sit on a committee with some of the most respected coaches in the south."

The men get back to work this weekend with the USF Invitational Friday through Sunday, while the women return to the courts Oct. 10-12 for the Rollins College C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational.
