UCF Wraps Up Play at Southern Intercollegiates

Sept. 22, 2008

ATHENS, Ga. (UCFAthletics.com) - Two Knights were in action Monday morning as the UCF men's tennis team concluded its first fall tournament of the year. Senior Brock Sakey (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) and freshman Joe Delinks (Falmouth, Mass.) played a semifinal doubles match at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

The Knights came up short against NC State's Frideric Prandecki and Christian Welte, falling 8-5. Delinks and Sakey won five matches over the weekend to advance to the semifinals.

The four-day event began on Friday with 179 participants from 32 schools. In addition to Delinks and Sakey, senior Tarek Ben Soltane (Tunis, Tunisia) and freshman Eugene Dolgovykh (Palm Coast, Fla.) also competed in the tournament for the Knights.

"This was a great opening weekend for our team," UCF assistant coach Nick Zieziula said. "In a strong field, we posted a quarterfinal finish in singles, a semifinal finish in doubles and made a lot of progress towards our individual goals."

The Knights will return to the courts on Friday, opening play at the USF Invitational in Tampa.
