ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The Conference USA office announced Monday that UCF sophomore Lauren Rosenthal (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was named the C-USA Setter of the Week after helping lead the UCF volleyball team to the Southern Miss La Quinta Inn Invitational title and its first conference victory since 2006. Rosenthal's C-USA player of the week distinction was the first in her career and the first for the UCF volleyball squad since joining the league in 2005.
"We are very proud that Lauren got recognized for her accomplishments this weekend," head coach Todd Dagenais said. "We thought that we had potential player of the week performances from Erin Campbell and Jenny Heppert as well, so it's very exciting that we were able to earn our first Conference USA Player of the Week. We recognize that it takes a lot of people for one person to win an award, and this award is something that the team can relish in."
Rosenthal averaged 13.60 assists per set at the three-day tournament, which included 52 assists in the victory over North Texas. The Colorado Springs, Colo., native also posted 10 digs and a career-high four service aces against the Mean Green for her second double-double of the season.
The sophomore's efficient setting helped the Knights hit .326 as a team on the weekend, which included a season-high .412 attack percentage in the win over McNeese State.
Since earning the starting setter spot in the Knights' lineup against Utah Valley State on Sept. 5, Rosenthal has averaged 10.55 assists per set and has totaled 327 assists, nine service aces and 13 total blocks. On the season, the sophomore holds the ninth spot on the league register with an 8.24 assists per set average, while posting 404 total assists.
