ATHENS, Ga. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team continued play at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex Sunday. Senior Brock Sakey (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) and freshman Joe Delinks (Falmouth, Mass.) advanced to the semifinals of their doubles bracket.
The UCF pair topped Murilo Souza and Victor Vaz of Jacksonville, 9-8 (2), to move on to Monday's semifinal round. The Knights will play NC State's Frideric Prandecki and Christian Welte.
In a singles quarterfinal match against Lander's Sheharvar Wali, senior Tarek Ben Soltane (Tunis, Tunisia) dropped a 6-2, 7-6 (4) tilt. Ben Soltane won three contests earlier in the weekend to reach the round of eight.
Sakey posted a 6-2, 6-1 consolation win over Virginia Tech's Preston Lemon. Delinks dropped his consolation match to Charlotte's Mortiz Bernhoerster (7-5, 6-0).
The tournament got underway on Friday with 179 participants from 32 schools.
