ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - After two successful home meets to open the season, the UCF cross country team hits the road for the first time Saturday when the Knights compete in the Mountain Dew Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. The race is slated to start at 8 a.m. and includes 16 collegiate teams.
The Knights started the season well at the new UCF Cross Country Complex, finishing second in the season-opening Knight Attack Challenge before claiming the title at the Black & Gold Invitational. Senior Allison Palmer (Oviedo, Fla.) won the individual title for the Knights, who claimed six of the top eight spots in the meet.
"After running two solid meets at home, we are looking forward to competing at the University of Florida against different competition on a different course," said head coach Caryl Smith Gilbert. "It is a much hillier terrain which will give us a different experience. We are still in preparation for the Conference USA championships in Memphis. The athletes have had a good week of training, and we hope to set as many personal bests as possible."
UCF is currently ranked 15th in the region in the latest USTFCC South Region rankings. Florida, the host institution of the Mountain Dew Invitational, is currently second in the region while Jacksonville (9th) and Florida Atlantic (14th) are also competing.
