IRVING, Texas (UCFAthletics.com) - After a strong showing in his first collegiate tournament, UCF freshman Blayne Barber (Lake City, Fla.) was named the Conference USA Men's Golfer of the Week Wednesday. This past weekend, Barber tied for 10th at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Georgia.
He finished the three-round tournament, which featured 13 of the top-30 squads in the nation, at even par 216. Barber carded a four-under 68 in the first round and led the field after one day of play. After a three-over 75 in the second round, he concluded the event with a one-over 73.
Barber arrived at UCF in August after an impressive junior career. He claimed the 2008 Florida State Golf Association Junior Championship and also finished second at this year's Press Thornton Future Masters.
Barber and the Knights will return to action Friday, opening play at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational in Illinois.
