UCF Men's Soccer Headed to Old Dominion Tournament

Sept. 10, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Fresh off its first win of the 2008 season, the UCF men's soccer team travels to Norfolk, Va., this weekend to play two games at the Old Dominion STIHL Soccer Classic. The Knights begin play on Friday with a 4:30 p.m. contest against William & Mary before facing the host Monarchs Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

"We need to build on the momentum we gained on Sunday [at Stetson]," second-year head coach Bryan Cunningham said. "We have stressed to our team the importance throughout the course of the season to build on our successes and avoid letdowns. The players have practiced well this week and understand we have an opportunity to play two more very strong teams in William and Mary and Old Dominion, and we need to be ready to play."

UCF picked up a victory Sunday night at Stetson to improve to 1-2 on the season, defeating the Hatters 1-0 on a Joe Crowley goal in the 85th minute. Sophomore keeper Sean Johnson made six saves in posting his third career shutout and first of 2008. Johnson's efforts earned him Player of the Week honors from both Conference USA and SoccerFla.com.

The Knights are 1-1-0 all-time against William and Mary with the last meeting taking place in 1987. UCF and Old Dominion have never met in men's soccer.
