Shakopee, Minn. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Sophomore golfer Katie Detlefsen took second place at the Minnesota Women's State Open, finishing the 36-hole event with a score of 148 (+6). Detlefsen was the top finishing amateur in the event as former LPGA member Angie Oberholser won the event with a two-day score of 144 (+2).
Detlefsen held a two-shot lead over Oberholser after the opening round, but the professional posted a 69 (-2) in her final round to capture her second Open title. Detlefsen took the first-round lead with a 73 (+2) during Wednesday's opening round at the Stonebrook Golf Club.
During her first collegiate season, Detlefsen saw action in eight events. She equaled her low round of the season in the second round at the NCAA East Regional, posting a 76 (+4).
Detlefsen and her Knight teammates will open the 2008-09 campaign in late September at the Mason Rudolph Championship. The event will be played in Brentwood, Tenn., and hosted by Vanderbilt University.
