UCF Fastbreak - Aug. 5

Aug. 5, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - When junior forward Tony Davis (Sarasota, Fla./Riverview) arrived at UCF as a rookie in 2006, he was listed at 195 pounds. Two years later, the 6-foot-7 Davis is finally reaping the rewards of his hard work in the weight room.

Davis says he currently weighs 205 pounds and is pleased about his weight gain. "I see improvement," he said. "I still have a long way to go. My bench is 275, which is the highest it has ever been. [Weight training] is going well."

Under the supervision of strength and conditioning coach B.J. Faulk, the Knights lifted several days each week during the summer inside the new weight room at the team's practice facility.

Davis has also been working hard in the on the court this summer, focusing on improving his ball-handling, shooting and post moves.

As a sophomore in 2007-08, he made nine starts and averaged 6.4 points and a team-best 5.9 rebounds.

When asked which Knight was most impressive during the team's pickup games over the summer, Davis points to freshman guard A.J. Rompza (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young). "He is a real nice guard," Davis said. "He is real quick... he likes to push it. He is like another Chip (Cartwright)."

Rompza garnered all-state honors in Illinois this past season after averaging 18.0 points and 7.0 assists for Chicago's Whitney Young High School. The point guard is one of five freshmen on the Knights' roster.

Season tickets for the Knights' upcoming campaign at the new UCF Arena are slated to go on sale later this summer. UCF won 12 contests at home in 2007-08, the program's inaugural year at the 10,000-seat facility.
