UCF Volleyball Falls to Georgia Southern in Five-Set Nail Biter

STATESBORO, Ga. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Sophomore Janine Williams (Gainesville, Fla.) posted her second-consecutive double-double after registering a match-high 25 kills and 13 digs, despite the UCF volleyball team falling to Georgia Southern, 3-2 (25-23, 19-25, 25-19, 27-29, 12-15), at Hanner Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Knights evened their overall and Georgia Southern Holiday Inn Invitational record to 1-1.

For the second-straight match, UCF came out firing, totaling 20 kills on its way to a 25-23 victory in the first set. But, the Knights and the Eagles traded wins in the following three sets to even the match 2-2. Errors hampered UCF's efforts in the fifth set, with the hosts hitting .467 compared to the Knights' .083.

Besides Williams, three additional Knights posted double-doubles in the match. Juniors Erin Campbell (Kansas City, Mo.) and Andrea Youngblood (Castle Rock, Colo.) both registered double-doubles for the second-straight match, with Campbell getting 12 kills and 11 digs and Youngblood recording 39 assists and 13 digs. Sophomore Lauren Rosenthal (Colorado Springs, Colo.) joined the double-double club after dishing out 17 assists and picking up 10 digs, for her first of the season.

Sophomore Lauren Williams (Lake Mary, Fla.) also had a productive day for the Black and Gold, posting 11 kills, three block assists and a block solo in the match, while fellow middle-blocker Jenny Heppert (Lawrence, Kan.) totaled eight kills and a team-leading .300 hitting percentage. Heppert also served up three service aces in the loss, moving her into a tie for the eighth spot on the UCF individual career register.

UCF concludes play at the Georgia Southern Holiday Inn Invitational when they go head-to-head with Presbyterian tonight at 5 p.m.
