Carati, Serrot, Yakimchenkova Earn ITA Scholar-Athlete Honors

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF women's tennis team was recently recognized for its achievements in the classroom when the Knights were named a 2008 Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team. Three individuals were also honored as Jennifer Carati, Elvira Serrot and Anna Yakimchenkova were selected as ITA Scholar-Athletes.

ITA All-Academic Team status is given to programs that have a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above. In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a varsity letterwinner with a GPA of at least 3.50.

Carati and Yakimchenkova both concluded their collegiate careers in the spring. Serrot, who is entering her senior campaign at UCF, was an All-Conference USA Second Team selection this past season. She went 8-1 at No. 2 singles and won six-straight matches to complete the year. In doubles, Serrot went 19-6 during the 2007-08 campaign with Carati. Meanwhile, Yakimchenkova finished with a team-high 19 singles victories in 2008, and she climbed into a tie for eighth in the UCF record books with 68 singles wins for her career.
