ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Leigh Torbin has been named UCF's director of athletics communications. Torbin, who will serve as the primary media relations contact for the Knights' football team, comes to Orlando after six years at Connecticut.
While with the Huskies, Torbin handled all media relations duties for the football program. He worked with a media following that included eight different local newspapers, and also helped garner national attention for the program. Torbin served as the managing editor of UConn's football media guide and was responsible for producing the Huskies' 2007 Meineke Car Care Bowl guide and 2004 Motor City Bowl guide.
"We are excited that Leigh has joined the UCF Athletics staff and will be directing our football media relations efforts. Leigh has experience promoting programs on the national football scene and brings a wealth of knowledge to our athletics communications office," associate athletics director for communications and marketing Joe Hornstein said.
During his time at UConn, Torbin also spent time working with the men's golf, men's and women's swimming and diving, women's lacrosse, men's and women's tennis, women's ice hockey and women's basketball programs.
Torbin is no stranger to the Sunshine State. He worked as an assistant director in the sports information office at Florida from 2000-02. Torbin served as the secondary media contact for the Gators' football team and the primary press liaison for the school's men's tennis program.
Before moving to Florida, Torbin spent two years at Vanderbilt, where he was the media contact for men's and women's tennis, while assisting with football.
Torbin earned his bachelor's degree in sport management from Massachusetts in 1998. While at UMass, he served as the primary media contact for the school's men's soccer, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's track and field and women's skiing teams.
