UCF's Sosa Gains More International Experience

Aug. 12, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - In July, UCF freshman guard Isaac Sosa (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) gained valuable experience competing against some of the best young players in the world at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship in Argentina. Sosa had another opportunity to represent Puerto Rico in international play this past weekend when he competed at the Nike Global Challenge in Portland, Ore.

The tournament featured teams from Canada, Lithuania, Senegal and Serbia, plus three squads made up of some of the top prep players from the United States. At the event, Sosa averaged 11.0 points.

Puerto Rico played three contests in Oregon and concluded the tournament with a 74-65 win over Senegal. Sosa totaled 14 points, five assists and five boards in the win. His squad also played a pair of contests against teams from the United States and Sosa averaged 9.5 against the Americans.

Sosa had a solid performance at the FIBA event in July. In five games, he averaged 13.8 points and 3.2 rebounds.

The 6-foot-3 Sosa attended Grandview Prep in Boca Raton and was a Florida Class 1A All-State First-Team pick as a senior. He averaged 19.5 points, 6.5 assists and 6.0 boards in 2007-08.

Sosa helped lead Grandview Prep to the state finals, but did not play in his team's last two games due to an injury. In addition to earning all-state honors, he was named the South Florida Sun-Sentinel's 3A-2A-1A Player of the Year and the small schools player of the year by the Palm Beach Post.

Sosa will join the Knights this fall. Season tickets for UCF's upcoming campaign at the new UCF Arena are scheduled to go on sale later this summer. UCF won 12 contests at home in 2007-08, the program's inaugural year at the 10,000-seat facility.
