UCF Names Carrie Sordel Assistant Women's Golf Coach

Aug. 11, 2008

Orlando, Fla. (www.UCFAthletics.com) - UCF women's golf head coach Emilee Klein announced the hiring of Carrie Sordel as the team's assistant coach on Monday. Sordel will be the first full-time assistant coach in the program's history.

"I am really excited to bring Carrie in for this position," Klein said. "She has an incredible playing background that is going to help our team a lot and she is going to be a great asset to helping us achieve our goals." Sordel is a native of Windermere, Fla., and prepped at West Orange High School. The Orlando Sentinel named her the Orlando Area's High School Player of the Year in 1999.

The former Florida State standout had a trio of top-25 finishes at the ACC Championship and participated in three NCAA Regionals and two NCAA Championships during her four-year career with the Seminoles. As a senior, Sordel finished tied for ninth at the NCAA East Regional, to earn All-Region honors.

"This is an exciting opportunity for me to work with Coach Klein," Sordel said. "I am looking forward to meeting the girls and get them started on a great season. The team had a good season a year ago and I just want to help Coach Klein continue building a winning tradition here at UCF."

After earning her degree in statistics from Florida State in December of 2004, Sordel spent a year as a professional on the Duramed Futures Tour. Following that season, she returned to school as a graduate assistant and earned her master's degree in sport and leisure commerce from the University of Memphis.

While at Memphis, Sordel completed an internship in the Tigers' athletic department working with the compliance and life skills departments. She also taught golf and walking to college students at Memphis as part of her graduate assistantship.

The Knights are coming off their first NCAA Regional appearance since the 2002 season and will open the 2008 campaign at the Mason Rudolph Championship in Brentwood, Tenn., Sept. 26-28.
