UCF Men's Basketball Top 40 - Dean Rossin

Aug. 7, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Dean Rossin played bigger than his size. In two years at UCF, the 6-foot-5 post player grabbed rebounds and blocked shots at a surprising rate.

Playing on some of UCF's better Division II teams, Rossin suited up for the Knights from 1979-81. Nicknamed "The Enforcer," he grabbed 472 boards during his time in Orlando. He recorded 299 rebounds as a senior, which ranks third all-time in program history. Against St. Michael's in 1979, Rossin totaled 19 rebounds.

Rossin was an adequate offensive player who really shined in the paint on the other end of the floor. He totaled 56 career blocks, which ranks ninth all-time at UCF.

Rossin's success at UCF is impressive considering he did not play high school basketball. The Lake City native attended Columbia High School and graduated in 1971. He did not start playing organized basketball until several years later, when he was attending Lake City Community College.

Season tickets for the Knights' 2008-09 campaign at the new UCF Arena are slated to go on sale later this summer. A year ago, UCF won 12 home contests in its first season at the state-of-the-art facility.

The 2008-09 campaign will mark the UCF men's basketball program's 40th season. To commemorate the anniversary, UCF is unveiling the top-40 players in school history. Members of the UCF athletics communications office worked with UCF basketball historian Bill Beekman to select the best players who finished their collegiate careers as Knights. One player from the list will be recognized each Thursday at www.ucfathletics.com.
