UCF to Host NCAA Men's Golf Regional in May

Aug. 4, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The NCAA has selected the Central Florida Sports Commission and UCF to co-host the 2009 NCAA Division I Men's Golf South Regional. The 75-player tournament, one of six regionals spread throughout the nation, will be held May 13-16 at the RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento in Lake County.

UCF and the Central Florida Sports Commission also hosted the 2006 NCAA East Regional at the Lake Nona Golf Club in Orlando.

"It is an honor that the NCAA has chosen our community to again host some of the nation's top golf programs," said John Saboor, president of the Central Florida Sports Commission. "Central Florida has a rich history of hosting prestigious college golf championships. Events such as the 2009 regional serve as building blocks towards bigger sports opportunities in the future."

"UCF continues to align itself with the very best in collegiate golf," added UCF executive vice president and director of athletics Keith Tribble. "Our men's and women's programs already host two of the nation's most prestigious regular-season events. The 2009 regional will only strengthen our growing reputation."

This will be the first time in its three-year history that the RedTail Golf Club will welcome an NCAA men's tournament. The Knights' women's program hosts the UCF Challenge, which is considered to be one of the top events in the nation, at the course each spring.

RedTail will also serve as the host for the 2009 Conference USA Men's Golf Championship in April.

"We are privileged to have been selected as the host for this exciting event," said RedTail general manager Nancy Laurie. "RedTail offers a fantastic golf experience, and it's exciting to know that the future champions in golf will be challenged by one of the finest private clubs in the southeast."
