UCF Finalizes 2009 Outdoor Track Slate

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) -UCF track and field head coach Caryl Smith Gilbert announced the 2009 outdoor track and field schedule Monday and the Knights will host three events. UCF opens the season by traveling to Miami for the Hurricane Invitational on March 20.

The Knights then host the UCF Invitational on March 27, their first of three home events. The UCF Black and Gold Classic held on April 18 and the UCF Twilight slated for May 9 will also take place at the UCF Track and Field Complex.

Nine meets are on the challenging schedule, highlighted by the Penn Relays Carnival (April 23-25) and the Conference USA Championships (May 14-16). The Knights will compete in six meets in Florida, including the Pepsi Florida Relays (Apr. 3-4).

The NCAA Championships are slated for June 10-13 in Fayetteville, Ark.

UCF will leave Florida for the first time on April 23 when the Knights compete at the UCSD/USOC Invitational in San Diego and Chula Vista, Calif., and the prestigious Penn Relays Carnival in Philadelphia.

In April, the squad continues its instate competition at the Pepsi Florida Relays in Gainesville (April 3-4). A week later on April 11, the Knights will be in action at the Miami Elite Invitational.

The C-USA Championships is slated for May 14-16 in Tulsa, Okla.

Under Smith Gilbert's guidance, the Knights posted the best finish in school history - third - at the 2008 C-USA Outdoor Championships. The team collected four All-C-USA honors, including the 4X400 relay.

Sheree Carter became the first Knight to capture an individual C-USA outdoor championship by winning the heptathlon title.
