July 21, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Sophomore Kyle Cobb (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon) of the UCF men's golf team recorded a third-place showing at the Florida State Public Links Championship at the Hunter's Creek Golf Club in Orlando this past weekend. Cobb concluded the three-day, three-round event at 4-under 214.

Kevin Alywin won that title at 210 (-6).

In the first round of the tournament, Cobb carded a 2-under 70. He followed that round with a pair of 72s the final two days.

Eighty-six golfers competed in the event, which is sponsored by the Florida State Golf Association. The public links championship is open to public course players who are not members of a private club.

As a freshman in 2007-08, Cobb competed in three events for the Knights, including the NCAA West Regional in Bremerton, Wash. In April, he was the top UCF player at the Conference USA Championship in Texarkana, Ark. Cobb tied for eighth at the event and was the only rookie to finish in the top 10.
