UCF's Tomko Captures Slovak International Amateur Championship

July 15, 2008

Bresno, Slovakia (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF women's golfer Victoria Tomko recently won the Slovak International Amateur Championship played at the par-71 Gray Bear Tale golf course in Bresno, Slovakia.

Tomko grabbed the opening round lead of the three-round tournament with a 78, but saw her advantage slip away after an 82 in the second round. However, the Knights' junior-to-be rebounded on the final day to post an even-par 71 in round three to win the tournament by 10 strokes.

Tomko birdied the final hole to cap off her championship run and post the best round in tournament play. As a sophomore for UCF, Tomko competed in four events with her best round of the season coming at the UA-Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate when she shot a 74 (+3).

The Knights are coming off one of their best seasons in recent memory after advancing to the NCAA East Regionals in Athens, Ga. It was the team's first trip to postseason play since the 2002 season and first under third-year head coach Emilee Klein.
