ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF track and field senior Kristen Zieminski (Sarasota, Fla.) has been named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Women's Track and Field Academic All-District first team, it was announced Thursday evening by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
This is the second major academic honor this season for Zieminski, who on May 16 was named to the 2008 Conference USA Track and Field All-Academic Team.
Zieminski is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of UCF with a dual bachelor's degree in advertising/public relations and marketing. She currently holds a 4.00 grade point average while working on her master's in business administration at UCF.
Zieminski ran the Knights' top time in the mile (5:06.53) during the indoor season, then ran her personal-best of 4:42.30 in the 1,500-meter run at the Vanderbilt Invitational in April. She helped UCF achieve an extraordinary season of firsts under first-year head coach Caryl Smith Gilbert, which included a school-best third-place finish at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships in El Paso, Texas, in mid May.
Zieminski is a five-time member of the Dean's List and twice was selected to the President's List. She has annually been among the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal winners.
UCF is a member of CoSIDA District 3, which encompasses the states of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The first-team all-district selections then become eligible for consideration for academic all-America status.
