ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - With numerous hours of training and competition behind them, the No. 5 UCF lightweight rowers are ready to travel to New Jersey for the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships this weekend. The lightweight 8+ boat will face off with every program that is ranked in the top nine in the country, as schools will be battling for a national title.
The IRA regatta serves as the final event of the season for UCF. Since the NCAA does not hand out a national championship for lightweight boats, the IRA regatta is the premier weekend for schools' lightweight squads across the country.
UCF is slated to open Friday's action at 7 a.m. on Cooper River, and will race in lane two of heat number one. Joining the Knights in the heat will be No. 1 Wisconsin, No. 4 Georgetown, No. 8 MIT and No. 9 Duquesne. Over in heat two are No. 2 Princeton, No. 3 Stanford, No. 6 Radcliffe (Harvard) and No. 7 Bucknell.
If the Knights fall to the repechage race, they will compete at 2:36 p.m. Friday. First and second place of the repechage claim spots in the grand final Saturday at 2:27 p.m.
