Women's Soccer Signee Jackson Honored by the Orlando Sharks

June 19, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Already selected as Florida's Gatorade Player of the Year, UCF women's soccer signee Katie Jackson (Satellite Beach, Fla.) was named an Orlando Sharks 2007-08 Annual Elite 11 Pro Prospect, the club announced last week.

Jackson joins 10 other local female players that were recognized by the Sharks. It was the second-straight season the Sharks honored the top 11 male and female players from the Orlando area.

Candidates for the award were selected through an integrated review process by the Sharks staff, which included scouting at games and tournaments, speaking with local soccer leaders and reviewing compiled statistics for the most current high school season. The award seeks to highlight local athletes who show the most promising potential to become professional soccer players.

The 22 players and their families will be invited to attend a reception and an on-field recognition ceremony at an Orlando Sharks home game during the 2008-09 season later this year, according to the Sharks.

Jackson was a dominating force with Satellite High School last year, winning the school's Golden Boot Award while helping guide the team to a runner-up performance at the Class 5A state tournament. The midfielder was the Florida Today Player of the Year as she collected 50 goals and 30 assists as a senior.

The 2008 Knights, who are coming off an appearance in the NCAA Tournament Second Round, kick off their regular season at Florida State Aug. 22
