UCF to Host 2009 C-USA Men's Tennis Championship

June 4, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF Tennis Complex will host the 2009 Conference USA Men's Tennis Championship, the league's board of directors announced earlier this week. The eight-team event will be held April 17-19.

UCF will be hosting a conference men's tennis championship for the first time since joining the Division I ranks in 1985. This past season, SMU hosted the C-USA Championship in Dallas.

The tournament champion receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. Tulsa claimed this year's title.

UCF head coach Bobby Cashman feels that his team will benefit from the home court advantage. His squad went 7-2 in Orlando in 2008.

"This will really help our team. Home court advantage is huge in tennis, especially for long tournaments," he said. "Hosting the championship will also be a showcase for our program and will provide UCF with some national attention."

The UCF Tennis Complex has served as the Knights' home since 2001. In 2005, the facility was renovated. A new championship court with 80 permanent seats was added and all of the courts were resurfaced.

Since joining C-USA in 2005, UCF has hosted two championship tournaments on campus: softball in 2007 and women's basketball this past season.

The C-USA Board of Directors also announced that the 2010 outdoor track and field championship will be held in Orlando.
