Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Former UCF offensive lineman L.J. Anderson was one of six rookies to sign a two-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs on Tuesday. Anderson is the third Knight since the 2008 Draft to reach a free agent deal with an NFL team and the second Knight to join the Chiefs.
The Chiefs used their final selection of the draft to take UCF tight end Mike Merritt in the seventh round. Defensive standouts Leger Douzable and Keith Shologan signed with the Minnesota Vikings and San Diego Chargers, respectively, a day after the draft.
Anderson appeared in 37 games during his tenure with the Knights, including 33 starts. He helped the UCF offense set school records for points (502) and rushing yards (3,287) in a season.
With Anderson's signing, six members from the Knights' 2007 Conference USA Champion squad will be in NFL training camps this summer. The trio of free agent signees will be joined by Merritt and fellow draftees Kevin Smith (Detroit Lions - 3rd round) and Josh Sitton (Green Bay Packers - 4th round) and Merritt.
