NEW ORLEANS, La. (www.ucfathletics.com) - A day after being named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, UCF baseball junior Colin Arnold was selected to the All-C-USA Second Team, the league office announced on Tuesday. The native of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., is currently in his first year with the Knights after transferring from Daytona Beach Community College.
"I expected to come here and play well. It was a shock to be named to the team, but at the same time, I have worked hard this year," said Arnold, who spent most of the year in the middle of the order before serving as UCF's leadoff man at the end of the regular season. "I really did not try to change my approach too much when I started hitting leadoff. My job is to always get on base, steal bases and score runs, so that's what I have been doing."
Arnold holds a .326 batting average in 55 games played for the Black and Gold in 2008. He has racked up 73 hits with a homer, 37 RBI and 47 runs scored. The left fielder's 17 doubles sit in a tie for fifth in C-USA, and he has swiped 14 bases in 16 attempts.
In his first game in Division I, Arnold went 2-for-3 with three RBI vs. Florida A&M Feb. 22. He went on to open the season by hitting safely in 14-straight outings, and later had a 10-game hitting streak April 9-25, which included a 4-for-5 performance at Marshall April 20.
Arnold will help lead the Knights this week in their journey through the 2008 Entergy C-USA Championship in New Orleans. No. 7 seed UCF takes on No. 2 Southern Miss in the third game of the day as first pitch is slated for Wednesday at 5 p.m. ET.
