Gainesville, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF softball team will make its second appearance in the NCAA Regional Tournament today when it faces in-state rival USF at 3:30 p.m. But before the Knights take the field today, they had one last day of practice to shake the nerves out and prepare their game plan.
The Black and Gold began the day Thursday will a short but exciting trip north to Gainesville, before hitting the field for practice. The Knights kicked-off practice with rounds in the batting cage, then moved onto the field for live hitting off head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie. Practice concluded with defensive drills and a team huddle, preparing the Knights for the big day to come.
UCF was welcomed to Katie Seashole Pressly Softball Stadium on the University of Florida campus with NCAA Softball Championship banners and the school logo plastered to the face of the press box overlooking the field. A large NCAA logo sat in centerfield, and a student-athlete hospitality tent was opened just steps away from the playing surface, with the Knights taking advantage of the impeccable spread during and after their practice session.
The Knights take on in-state rival USF in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament Friday at 3:30 p.m. in Gainesville, Fla. Their trip to the Gainesville Regional is their second since 2005.
