May 14, 2008

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - After leading the UCF softball team to the Conference USA Championship title and an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament last weekend, senior pitcher Allison Kime (Brandon, Fla.) was named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Southeast Region First Team, NFCA officials announced Wednesday. With her selection, Kime will appear on the ballot as an All-America nominee, with results scheduled to be released on May 28.

Kime, a 2007 All-Southeast Region First Team selection, holds a 31-10 record in 2008 and ranks 9th in the NCAA in victories (31), 19th in ERA (1.04) and 31st in strikeouts per seven innings (8.7). The senior also ranks fourth all-time in C-USA with 831 strikeouts.

Kime was named to the 2008 All-C-USA First Team, the C-USA Championship All-Tournament Team and was the C-USA Pitcher of the Week three times during the regular season. She posted at least 10 strikeouts on 12 occasions, recording 15 strikeouts three different times.

She broke the UCF single-season strikeout record with 343 strikeouts in 2008 and has 13 shutouts in 34 complete games this season. Kime holds 14 UCF program career-pitching records and seven single-season records.

Her selection to the first team is the second of her career after making the squad last season. The senior becomes the third player and fifth selection from UCF to make an All-Region squad joining Jania Shinhoster (2002) and Stephanie Best (2003) who also earned selections.

The Knights take on in-state rival USF in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament Friday at 3:30 p.m. in Gainesville, Fla. Their trip to the Gainesville Regional is their second since 2005.
