Cromwell Ready to Join U.S. Women's Soccer Under-20 Coaching Staff

May 8, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF women's soccer head coach Amanda Cromwell recently traveled to California for the U.S. Soccer Under-20 Training Camp in April, and she again will hit the road May 12-27 as a member of the coaching staff. Cromwell helped select 26 players from the California camp, and now rejoins the team in Clemson, S.C., for a two-week training session as the program hopes to advance to the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Chile.

Cromwell along with head coach Tony DiCicco will guide the United States through several scrimmages, including a May 22 contest against the Atlanta Silverbacks of the USL W-League. The camp is set to prepare the team for CONCACAF qualification (The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football) in June in Puebla, Mexico, from June 17-28.

At that tournament south of the border, the U.S. will compete for one of three CONCACAF berths at the World Cup. Along with the U.S., host Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, Jamaica, Nicaragua and Trinidad & Tobago will participate in the event as well.

The 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup will feature 16 teams, with 11 countries already qualifying (China, Japan, North Korea, England, France, Germany, Norway, New Zealand, Brazil, Argentina and Chile).
