CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF's No. 5 lightweight 8+ rowing squad traveled to Massachusetts for just one race Saturday, but it made the most of its opportunity. The Knights took down No. 3 Radcliffe (Harvard) and No. 10 MIT on the Charles River's 2K course to bring home a first-place finish.

"We are very greatful to MIT for their hospitality and letting us borrow equipment so we could afford to go to Boston and race," said lightweight coach Kris Muhl. "We have been working hard to get to this point. We know there is work still to be done, and MIT, Radcliffe and the other teams are all working hard too as there is over a month before the championship race, so a lot can still happen."

Facing a consistent tailwind and rough water throughout the event, UCF and Radcliffe went toe to toe and the Black and Gold barely crossed the finish line ahead of the third-ranked boat in the country. The Knights completed the course in 6:46.6, just one second ahead of Radcliffe, while No. 10 MIT posted a time of 7:03.1.

The Knights' rowing program is back to work with the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, Pa., May 9-10.
