April 9, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The 2008 UCF Athletics Hall of Fame dinner is slated for Friday evening at the J. Rolfe Davis Recruiting Room at Bright House Networks Stadium. The event is part of UCF's inaugural hall of fame weekend, which also features the football spring game on Saturday at the stadium.

The hall of fame dinner begins at 6 p.m. on Friday. To purchase tickets for the event, contact Misty Knight in the Golden Knights Club at 407-882-1289 or mknight@athletics.ucf.edu.

At the induction ceremony, nine individuals, including five former student-athletes, will join the hall of fame. Darryl Davis, who played men's basketball for the Knights from 1991-95, is one of the former student-athletes.

Davis ranks fifth all-time at UCF with 1,540 points and is sixth all-time with 583 boards. As a junior in 1994, the shooting guard helped the Knights to their first trip to the NCAA Tournament at the Division I level.

Davis, who played under head coach Kirk Speraw for two years, will become the seventh former men's basketball standout in the hall of fame.

Currently, Davis works in Orlando as the coordinator for student-support systems at Valencia Community College. The cousin of current UCF men's basketball star Jermaine Taylor, Davis recently spoke with the UCF athletics communications staff about joining the hall of fame.

Describe your emotions about joining the UCF Athletics Hall of Fame.

"It is a great honor to know that you have been appreciated for all of the hard work... the blood, sweat and tears. It definitely shows the appreciation that the fans and the university have for you."

What memory do you consider to be the best from your time as a student-athlete at UCF?

"The particular memory that stands out for me was our (1994 Atlantic Sun) conference championship. The whole situation, winning the conference championship and being the first team to go to the NCAA [Tournament], that was a great feeling. [At the tournament] we were enjoying the moment. I do not think we were awestruck. We had played a few bigger schools at big arenas. We had a great season that year. I think we won 21 games. We made it to the tournament and we were representing UCF. It was definitely a good feeling."
