Final Stats
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Playing indoors for the first time this year, the UCF women's tennis team breezed by UAB, 4-0, Friday at the WellWorx Sporting Club in Memphis, Tenn. The match was moved to the indoor courts due to weather conditions in the area.
The meeting with the Blazers (7-4) also was the first neutral-site match in 2008 for the Knights, which improved to 9-8 on the season. Since the two programs played in a neutral indoor facility the match was halted after UCF secured the clinching fourth overall point, with the Nos. 4, 5 and 6 singles matches not being completed.
Doubles opened up the day with senior Anna Yakimchenkova and junior Kenza Belbacha taking down Jenny Cape and Seden Soyalp' at No. 3, 8-4. Senior Kyla McNicol and freshman Jenny Frisell sealed the first team point by edging Antonio Nugent and Evelien Strijker, 9-8, at the No.1 spot.
Three straight-set victories in singles action then closed the win for the Knights. Frisell and McNicol posted identical 6-2, 6-2 triumphs at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively, while junior Elvira Serrot cruised by Gulsah Esen at No. 2, 6-2, 6-3.
UCF will take a short rest before battling Memphis Saturday at 3 p.m. ET with the match scheduled to be played at Rhodes College.
