April 30, 2008

TORONTO (www.ucfathletics.com) - Three days after a trio of Knights were tabbed in the National Football League Draft, former UCF defensive lineman Keith Shologan (Edmonton, Alberta) was selected with the fourth overall pick in the Canadian Football League Draft on Wednesday by the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He is the second former UCF player in the last three years to be picked in the first round of the CFL Draft.

As a senior in 2007, Shologan recorded 33 total tackles and 2.5 sacks. After the regular season, he earned a spot on the All-Conference USA Second Team. He started 47 career contests for the Knights and appeared in a school-record 50 games over the course of his four-year career.

On Monday, Shologan signed a free-agent contract with the NFL's San Diego Chargers.

This past season, Shologan guided the Knights to their first C-USA Championship title and an appearance in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl. He also was a member of UCF's 2005 squad that played in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl.

In 2006, he led all UCF defensive linemen with 40 tackles.

During his time at UCF, Shologan also excelled in the classroom. The business major garnered ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America First Team honors this past season. He also was named to the C-USA Football All-Academic Team.

Shologan is the third player in school history to be selected in the CFL Draft. In 2006, offensive lineman Cedric Gagne-Marcoux was picked by Hamilton with the eighth selection of the first round. Calgary selected offensive lineman Taylor Robertson in the second round in 2003.
