April 23, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - A pair of former UCF men's golfers shined this past weekend on the professional level as Cliff Kresge and Robert Damron posted impressive performances. Both Kresge and Damron are among a large group of former Knights who are competing professionally.

Kresge has three top-10 finishes on the PGA TOUR this season, including a fifth-place showing at the Verizon Heritage this past weekend. He ranks 35th in the FedEx Cup standings and has earned $792,978 during the campaign. Earlier this year, he earned the largest paycheck of his career after tying for third at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard ($301,600).

From 1988-90, Kresge starred for the Knights, helping UCF to seven tournament crowns.

Last week, Damron won the Nationwide Tour's Athens Regional Foundation Classic. The victory was his first on the Nationwide Tour and he earned $94,500 for his efforts. Damron is currently seventh on the tour's money list. The top 25 on the list earn a PGA TOUR card for 2009.

A three-time All-America while with the Knights from 1991-94, Damron is a member of the UCF Athletics Hall of Fame. He led the school to the NCAA East Regionals on two occasions and to one NCAA Championship. He won five tournaments while at the school.
