ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - A pair of future Knights were recently honored for their play this past season as high school seniors. Both P.J. Gaynor (Jacksonville, Fla.) and A.J. Rompza (Chicago, Ill.) garnered all-state second team honors.

A 6-foot-8 forward from Mandarin High School, Gaynor earned a spot on the Florida Class 6A All-State squad. During the campaign, he averaged 15.9 points, 9.0 boards and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 60 percent from the field. The Florida Times-Union selected Gaynor to its all-area first team.

Gaynor participated in a pair of all-star contests following the season. In the Senior Showcase in Winter Park, he scored 13 points and grabbed seven boards for Team Florida. Gaynor also competed in the Florida Athletic Coaches Association North-South all-star game in Daytona Beach. At the event, he scored six points and added three blocks.

Rompza is a 5-foot-10 point guard who led Whitney Young High School to a 25-6 mark in 2007-08. After averaging 18.0 points and 7.0 assists per contest, Rompza was named to the Illinois All-State Class 4A Second Team.

A Chicago Sun-Times All-Area selection, Rompza played in the Chicago High School Classic all-star game after the year concluded and totaled nine assists.

Another UCF signee, 7-foot-4 center Jakub Kusmieruk, was selected to play in the Charm City Challenge all-star game in Baltimore, Md. Kusmieruk, who attends the John Carroll School in Bel Air, Md., scored six points on 3-of-3 shooting from the floor for the County All-Stars. He added four rebounds, one block and a steal.

All three players will join the Knights this fall.
