TEXARKANA, Ark. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF freshman Kyle Cobb (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon) tied for eighth in the individual standings as the Knights' men's golf team concluded play at the Conference USA Championship at the Texarkana Country Club on Tuesday. The 19th-ranked Knights finished ninth at the three-day, three-round tournament.
Cobb carded a three-over 75 on Tuesday to finish at 217 (+1). The eighth-place showing was the best of Cobb's young college career.
He was the lone freshman to finish in the top-10 at the league championship.
In the final round, UCF posted a 299 (+11) to finish the event at 888 (+24).
UAB (857, -7) won the team title after carding a 283 (-5) on Tuesday. Zach Sucher (207, -9) and Brad Smith (209, -7) of the Blazers finished first and second, respectively.
Cobb was one of two UCF players to finish in the top 20. Sophomore Mike Stern (Miami, Fla./Killian) carded a one-under 71 in the final round to tie for 17th at 220 (+4).
Junior Greg Forest (Palm City, Fla./Martin County) tied for 35th (225, +9). Forest recorded a 76 (+4) on the final 18 holes. Junior David Johnson (Palm Bay, Fla./Melbourne) tied for 43rd. He registered a five-over 77 on Tuesday to conclude the championship at 227 (+11).
Senior Giwon Suh (Orlando, Fla./Olympia) also participated in the event. Suh posted a 78 (+6) Tuesday and tied for 47th (228, +12).
UAB finished nine strokes ahead of second-place Southern Miss (866, +2).
The Knights were competing in their third C-USA Championship. UCF hopes to earn an invitation to the NCAA Regionals, which will begin May 15.
