ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - There are only three home weekends left in the 2008 UCF baseball regular-season schedule, and the Knights will need a lot of fan support this weekend when they host No. 4 Rice Friday-Sunday at Jay Bergman Field. One of UCF's biggest series of the year will feature plenty of promotions and activities for fans to enjoy at the ballpark.
For every game against the Owls, The DeMarini Experience comes to Orlando and will be set up at Jay Bergman Field. Fans can test out DeMarini bats when the gates open an hour and a half prior to game time each day, and learn what it feels like to use the same bats the Knights' offense has put to work all season long en route to becoming one of the top run-producing programs in the country. If participants like what they see, they can take one home that night from a special on-site pro shop stocked with the latest and greatest gear from Wilson and DeMarini.
They can also register to win a Wilson A2000 glove, the Official Ball Glove of Major League Baseball, made from hand-matched Pro-Stock leather for unmatched, feel, durability and performance. It's the best selling baseball glove in history, and the choice of MLB players since 1957. There's a glove giveaway at every game, along with loads of other great prizes.
Friday's contest is sponsored by Jack Jennings & Sons Construction and it gets underway at 6:30 p.m. Pegasus will be on hand before the game, while fans entering the gates will be treated to a trading card giveaway with Coca-Cola sampling. The game also kicks off UCF baseball alumni weekend, as the annual alumni golf tournament is set to take place Saturday morning.
Game two on Saturday is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and trading cards are going to be handed out at the gate as well. UCF mini helmets are slated to be available Saturday.
Sunday's series finale will begin at 1 p.m., and local little leagues have been invited out to take in the action and participate in a contest to win Powerade packages courtesy of Coca-Cola. After the game, kids will be allowed to run the bases.
UCF stands at 26-16 this year, and this weekend will mark the second time this season that a program ranked in the top five in the country invades Jay Bergman Field. Then-No. 5 Missouri ventured to Orlando Feb. 25 and the Knights upset the Tigers, 10-9, in seven innings.
