REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF rowing participated in one of the nation's top regattas of the season this weekend, competing in the two-day Stanford Invitational at Redwood Shores. The Knights' faced three ranked opponents in the varsity 8+, while the novice 8+ and novice 4+ combined for perfect 3-0 record.
Day one on Saturday opened up with the novice 4+ boat defeating Stanford by 33 seconds. UCF then battled Southern Cal in the varsity 8+, second varsity 8+ and the varsity 4+, but could not come away with a victory. USC's varsity 8+ squad entered the weekend ranked No. 6 in the country.
In the afternoon session, the Knights' novice 8+ cruised past UCLA with a time of 8:04.93, defeating the Bruins by close to 21 seconds. The openweights, however, witnessed Washington State post three wins, including the Cougars' No. 5 varsity 8+ earning first place over UCF.
Sunday marked the second and final day of action, and the novice 8+ once again claimed first, this time edging Washington State by over seven seconds. The varsity boats took on UCLA on day two, only to come up short to the Bruins, whose varsity 8+ squad is ranked 16th.
UCF returns to the water May 9-10 when it travels to Philadelphia for the Dad Vail Regatta.
