April 2, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF women's tennis team has had close to two weeks off and will be back in action this weekend as the regular season is quickly coming to a close. The Knights will travel to Memphis, Tenn., to face UAB Friday at 3 p.m. and Memphis Saturday at 2 p.m., as they will serve as the final regular-season road matches of 2008.

Standing at 8-8 on the year, UCF is hitting the road for the first time since a trip to Rice March 11. The Knights will be led by senior Anna Yakimchenkova, who has amassed 10 singles wins this spring, along with senior Kyla McNicol, junior Kenza Belbacha and freshman Jenny Frisell who each have eight dual-match victories. Meanwhile, senior Jennifer Carati and junior Elvira Serrot will be putting a nine-match winning streak on the line in doubles. The duo is 16-6 on the season with a 12-3 record in dual-match competition.

UAB enters the weekend with a 7-3 record and has suffered three losses in its last four matches. The Blazers opened their season with six-straight victories, defeating the likes of North Alabama, Southern Miss, Northwestern State, Chattanooga, Samford and Louisiana-Monroe. UAB will be playing three-straight matches in Memphis as it battles UCF, UTEP and Memphis this weekend.

The Tigers are 7-10 for the 2008 campaign after a 5-2 loss to Arkansas State April 1. Memphis has posted wins over Tennessee-Martin, Rhodes College, Southern, Murray State, Tennessee Tech, Semo and Austin Peay. It will be wrapping its regular season with four-straight home matches, concluding with a meeting against Central Arkansas April 10.

UCF claims a 2-1 all-time record against UAB, with the last meeting coming in 2002, a 4-1 Knight win. Against Memphis, the Black and Gold is a perfect 3-0, including a 7-0 triumph over the Tigers in Orlando in 2007.
